Perception is reality. What is it that makes one person push and another coast? Pure heart, determination, and perseverance! The fact is that with each choice you condition your mind to make that choice easier the next time. Whether you shy away from the resistance or choose to meet it head-on, chances are that the same conclusion will come more quickly and easily the next time you meet an obstacle. The things that you tell yourself can do more good or bad than any words or tools fashioned against you. Your only limiting factor is you and the things that you choose to believe about yourself.
It is said “that perception is reality” and as you perceive the world, so shall it be. If your belief system is built around the potential that you see in yourself, it will drive the actions that you take. You must see the win in your mind’s eye before you can ever obtain in the world’s eyes. We were all made for a purpose and finding that purpose breeds fulfillment over time. You can buy the perfect bike shoes to help you stay in the stirrups or the water wicking clothes, but they are not going to make the difference between winning and losing. Focusing on your goal, pushing and grinding, and refusing to give up are the things that will keep you on your seat.
I once heard someone say, “You will only be successful when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe.” Yes, it is Eric Thomas again! Read that carefully my friends, “…as bad as you want to breathe.” Have you ever had the wind knocked out of you? Have you felt the pain and the fear of trying to catch your breath? Life will bring those obstacles. There will be fear. There will be pain. There will be people who tell you that you aren’t good enough, strong enough, or not smart enough. It is in those moments that you must rise to the balls of your feet, bare down and focus. Drive one leg forward and then the other, again and again and again.
